Shape and Colour test
Real Saffron threads are trumpet shaped and are a dark red colour. Your skin should also turn yellow after rubbing it between your fingers.

Signs of fake threads include:
-Orange coloured Saffron threads instead of dark red.
-Thread does not bulge at one end.

Colour Release Test
This is the best indication of wether your Saffron is real! Place your threads in a bowel of tepid water and if it's real, it'll slowly turn the water into a yellow colour.

Signs of fake threads include:
-Water turning a red colour instead of yellow.
-Turning yellow too quickly.
-Threads losing its vibrant red colour after a while.
-Water does not change colour.
Taste and Smell
Smell and Taste test
The smell and taste of real Saffron is quite hard to describe. The best description of the smell is that it provides an earthy, husky, and slightly sweet scent. Its beautiful aroma is one of its defining qualities when used in dishes and drinks!

Real Saffron should not taste sweet.
